Text of My Speech

I’m far from being perfect. I’m not the tallest or the shortest. I’m not the most creative person, and although I get good grades, I’m definitely not a genius. I may never learn to whistle or snap, and I’m not the fastest runner, but I’m also not the slowest. I have never traveled around the world, and seen the Eiffel tower or walked along the Great Wall of China, but I hope to do so one day, and that’s just one of the many things on my list.

Hi, I’m Christina C and I have a very long list of things I wish to accomplish during my life. Starting near the top of my list, I have my goals for my freshman year and for the rest of high school. My academic goals are to get at least a 3.5 GPA and to not procrastinate. I always seem to wait till the very last moment to work on projects and to study. Another goal I have is to have a bilingual seal on my diploma when I graduate, which will help me to get into a better college.

I also have many social and athletic goals for high school. My athletic goals, besides making it through Mr. H’s P.E. class, are to join a volleyball club and maybe eventually play on a school team. My social goals are to just reach out and meet new people, and maybe even make some new friends, while still keeping my old friends as well.

Going farther down on my list, I have my goals not just for high school, but for the rest of my life. As I said earlier I have always wanted to travel the world, especially Australia, but to do that I will probably need a job. Ever since I was little, I have wanted to be a veterinarian, one who works with small animals like cats and dogs, and maybe even open my own clinic one day. To do all that I will need to go to a good college. Although I haven’t decided exactly where I want to go, I have always liked Pepperdine University, even though it is not a veterinary college. Then I would finish my veterinary degree somewhere else, like UC Davis.

My list goes on and on, some goals being more reasonable than others, but at least I have goals, something I can strive for. Jim Rohn once said, “Goals. There’s no telling what you can do when you’re inspired by them. There’s no telling what you can do when you believe in them, and there’s no telling what will happen when you act upon them.”
